Life on the Desert Island Pedia (Exam Time Blues)

What with exams (I presume) sapping all the life out the site, the admins have decided to relocate the servers to a small tropical island in the hope it'll help generate more edits.

The idea behind this is that inevitable shipwrecked castaways will wash up on the island, and with their box of Hungry Hungry Hippos soggy and useless from the crash they'll be forced to use the site as their one distraction from the approaching finality of death. Of course there is every chance they'll burn it down for fire.

..so until they do here's a few mint articles related to exams you can distract yourself with, taken straight from the fridge in the garage:

where better to start than here? An exam that pushes your guesswork to its limit, I literally have no idea what this is about. Suffice to say, you won't pass.

An exam without rules is like a bus without the little gay signs that mean you have to give up your seat for old people - a lot more fun for everyone! Except old people, but they don't really take exams so we'll let this one slide.

The result of bringing your calculator lid into an exam. Also an article dedicated to the formerly available subject of death, including a detailed stab at vaguely explaining how the exam worked.

While not an exam related article, it does highlight the promising alternatives to the academic system.

If you have experienced any problems while reading this blog post consult your physician immediately. Side effects may include dizziness, headaches, itchy feet and delusions of grandeur. Brain medication is available for emergency cases, but only at extortionate prices, and only if your name is Hindleyite.

Illogicopedia is changing. Don't panic!

Don't worry! We aren't deleting everything!

In the last week, we have lost yet another of our more prominent users to the world of real life. At this time of global economic turbulence hecticness, I urge the users of Illogicopedia not to panic and go mental (though I can appreciate this is a way of life for many, including me).

It's a natural part of a wiki's progression that old users leave and the new guard takes over. Yes, BenedictBlade, Flameviper, Zerotrousers, Asema, Nerd, Quagsire... all names of Illogicopedia's past that have their place in its history. It would seem that growth discourages the once-strong sense of community but do not be down! It is not yet the time for drastic measures... that will come when Recent Changes all but dries up and every user is gone.

In fact, I would argue that the forum has seen an upsurge in activity of recent times. I have no graphs to back this up but I would suggest the forum is still going strong, perhaps more so than ever. In addition, the Illogiblog is most certainly more popular than it has ever been, with so many new active contributors over the last month. To those people, I say thank you very much and keep it up! The blog is healthier than ever and all the better for it.

So is the community in Persil peril? Well, no. But you can never have enough camaraderie. The solution is not to start again, but to instill an even greater sense of community amongst users so that they do not feel the need to leave.

This sense of community at the old Proboards forum (yes, one day I may stop talking about that place) was seen as more important than the wiki itself. If somebody could find a way of bringing this back without deleting everything, I will personally offer them five toenail clippings and a jar of air.

So above all, do not panic! Illogicopedia can still be the wiki you want it to be. You might not like how things are progressing but don't worry, you can be sure your trusty admins have a few things up their sleeves.

Illogicopedia's quest for independence - update

Illogicopedian Peoples' Front flag.

It seems that Illogicopedia's independence is going to be delayed for a while longer whilst cost issues are taken into account. More specifically it's being considered whether the move would be worth the money - after all, we the community will be the ones that have to fund it. Advertising would bring in a negligible amount of cash so it has been decided that is not the way to go.

At a cost of around £125 a year, Illogicopedia's new host would be a lot more expensive than Wikia, which costs 32p. Er, I mean it's free. Illogicopedia, however, will not be free until something is sorted finance-wise.

This is not an appeal, so don't donate your book tokens and Monopoly money. This ain't Wikipedia, you know.

Blog logo comp - results are in

We at the IllogiBlog would like to thank everyone who entered our blog logo competition! All of the entries were great but in the end we had to choose one. Well, we plumped for a (slightly modified version of) Robomilk's entry but we're sure everyone else had fun anyway!

In a special presentation ceremony, Robomilk, pictured right with Hindleyite, was awarded a cup of, erm, milk.
Look out for more competitions in the future, including the fourth Illogic Pickle, next in the pipeline.
